Yacht owners and crew members are always excited as October ends. They mark their calendars for the first weeks of November as a reminder that they need to prepare for the big Fall Yacht Show events in St Thomas and the BVI. These yacht shows are several days long and bring hundreds of charter boats together with yacht vacation brokers from around the world for the industry’s biggest marketing events of the year. The Fall Yacht Shows are the kickoff for the upcoming chartering season, and all the participating yachts hope to score big with the attending brokers.
Preparing the Boats for the 2016 Show
This year there were 54 yachts participating in the St Thomas Fall Yacht Show, and iYachtClub presented 11 yachts:
Aliwe:53’ Royal Cape Catamaran!
Avalanche: 60’ Trehard Sailing Yacht!
Elixir: 46’ Robertson & Caine Catamaran!
Island R&R: 46’ Robertson & Caine Catamaran!
Karizma: 53’Royal Cape Catamaran!
LoveBoat: 45’ Lagoon Catamaran!
Mango: 41” Lagoon Catamaran!
Nadiya: 47’ Robertson & Caine Catamaran
R-S-Cape: 44’ Fountaine Pajot Helia Catamaran!
Sognare: 47’ Robertson & Caine Catamaran!
Vivo: 50’ Fountaine Pajot Catamaran!
The crews worked diligently getting their yachts in perfect “show-ready” and “photo-shoot ready” condition for the show. Decks gleamed, stainless steel sparkled, interiors beckoned with beautiful new upholstery and linens, and the immaculate table settings and fresh flower arrangements polished off the look. The chefs also prepared gourmet treats for the visiting brokers to enjoy while on board. All this work reflected an effort to entice these ambassadors of the yacht charter industry to book their boat in the upcoming season.
Fall Yacht Show Competitions: iYachtClub Crews Earn Prizes
Yacht show competitions are a great way for crews to distinguish themselves and earn recognition for their yacht. As you can imagine, the standard for excellence is set very high by the charter chefs and the competition among them is quite fierce! This year, three contests were open for crew enrollment: Flavored Water, Culinary and Cocktail.
Flavored Water Competition
The Flavored Water Competition originated as a promotion to encourage yachts to stop using plastic water bottles on board, and, instead, use their own filtered osmosis system fresh water for their guests. This year Captain Kelly and Chef Dianne on Mango won 3rd place for their water—aptly named: Mango Water! The recipe can be found on their webpage!
In the Culinary Competition Chef Alicia on Catamaran Vivo, Captain Matt on Island R&R, and Chef Denise on Bella Vita participated using the secret ingredient, Tamarind, for their dishes. Alicia prepared a Tamarind Tart and Matt: Grilled Swordfish finished with a Tamarind, Balsamic Reduction. Chef Denise returning from a third-place finish in the 2015 St Thomas Yacht Show prepared a Shrimp Tamarindo that wowed the judges and earned her 2nd Place!
Both Alicia and Chef Casey also vied for honors in the Cocktail Competition. Casey received Honorable Mention for her libation: a Lavender Elderberry Spritz! Guests chartering on Island R&R this year will want to request this cocktail from the ship’s bar!

St. Thomas Charter Boat Show Finale— Pardigras!
The final night of the show brought a fun Pardigras Event—a party where the crews and brokers could mingle in a more informal setting—and just plain have fun! Zephyr’s crew Matt and Kendra really blew the doors off the costume competition and won first prize! Meanwhile, Captain Eric aboard Avalanche surprised the crowd by Fire Dancing with fire batons! It was a memorable evening and a great end to a very successful yacht show.
The 2016 St Thomas Fall Yacht Show was a spectacular event and the iYachtClub fleet really impressed the vacation brokers. The crews all performed with great professionalism and showed off their charter boats to their best advantage. We look forward to a very successful 2017 of bookings aboard the iYachtClub featured yachts!
